Ireland’s Aoife O’Rourke clinched gold in the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool with a unanimous decision victory over Turkey’s Busra Isildar.
All five judges scored the fight in favour of the Roscommon middleweight in the 75kg division bout.
The five scorecards read: 28:29, 27: 30, 27:30, 27: 30 and 28: 29 to O’Rourke over the three rounds.
The 28-year-old, who is a former world silver medallist, and four-time European champion, had victories over Monika Langerova, Sunniva Hofstad and Chengyu Wang on her way to the final.
She follows Grainne Walsh and Patsy Joyce in collecting medals from Liverpool.
Walsh picked up a bronze medal after she lost to Kazakhstan’s Aida Abikeyeva in her semi-final by unanimous decision.
Joyce also took home bronze from his first world championships as he lost out to Spain’s Rafael Lozano Serrano in his semi-final by way of a 3-2 split decision.
