Diego Lopes made sure to lock in his title shot by putting on one of the most dominant showings in his career.
Back in September 2024, Lopes was matched up against ex-UFC title challenger Brian Ortega in the main card of UFC 306 (last year’s Noche UFC event). It was a pivotal bout with a lot on the line for Lopes. With that in mind, the Brazilian battered Ortega for 15 minutes, knocking him down multiple times in the fight, and even winning a 30–26 scorecard with one of the judges. The victory got Lopes a shot at the vacant UFC featherlight belt against Alexander Volkanovski, a fight he lost by decision.
You can watch Lopes’ impressive showing in the video above.
Lopes (26-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC) returns to the cage Saturday in the main event of this year’s Noche UFC at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. He takes on rising featherweight contender Jean Silva (16-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) in a five-round contest.
