The big question in recent months has been whether Keegan Bradley was going to select himself to be a playing captain in the 2025 Ryder Cup.
A report suggests that’s bound to happen.
James Corrigan with Telegraph Sport, citing “sources,” reports it would be a sizable shock if Bradley didn’t select himself as one of his six captain’s picks Wednesday. Bradley will reveal his selections at 11 a.m. ET Wednesday at the PGA of America’s headquarters in Frisco, Texas.
On Sunday, Bradley finished T-7 in the 2025 Tour Championship, his first top-10 finish since winning the Travelers Championship in June.
President Donald Trump chimed in Sunday on social media, sharing his support for Bradley to be a playing captain.
“Keegan Bradley should DEFINITELY be on the American Ryder Cup Team — As Captain!!! He is an AMAZING guy. It will be a great Ryder Cup. At the invite of the PGA Tour, I will be there on tournament Friday!!! President DJT,” he posted.
A reported rule change last month also helped pave the way for Bradley to select himself, if it does happen. Team Europe Captain Luke Donald amended a change in the captain’s agreement that will allow one of Bradley’s assistants to act as a de facto captain if Bradley is playing during a session.
But with less than 24 hours until the entire American squad for the Ryder Cup is officially announced, it seems Bradley will call his name and don the red, white and blue as a captain and player next month at Bethpage Black.
If it happens, he would be the first American playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963, a span of 62 years.
