After announcing they are officially parting ways with QB Aaron Rodgers, the Jets are reportedly looking to move on from another veteran star.
New York is open to trading WR Davante Adams prior to the start of the league year on March 12, and is now taking calls from other teams, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
If the Jets can’t find a trade partner, the team is expected to release Adams.
SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes noted the same process could happen with WR Allen Lazard.
Adams has a $38.3 million cap hit for the 2025 season. He signed a five-year, $140 million deal with the Las Vegas Raiders and has two years remaining on the contract with a dead cap value of $8.3 million if released this offseason, per Spotrac.
The 32-year-old was acquired by the Jets on Oct. 15, 2024 in exchange for a conditional third-round pick.
Of course, Adams played eight seasons with Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers and the Jets hoped the duo would replicate the success they once had to turn the 2024 season around.
Things didn’t go as planned, as New York went 3-8 after trading for the former Pro-Bowler. Adams made 67 receptions for 854 yards with seven touchdowns over 11 games. His best performance came in a Week 15 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, recording nine catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns.
