With Ariel Hukporti out for several weeks and the Knicks‘ center position — while getting healthier soon with the impending return of Mitchell Robinson — rather thin at the moment, one player on New York’s radar to fill its 15th roster spot is Moses Brown, per SNY’s NBA Insider Ian Begley.
Brown, who played high school basketball at Archbishop Molloy in Briarwood, NY, spent time with the Westchester Knicks earlier this season but is currently on a 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
In a 103-96 win on Thursday against the Charlotte Hornets, the 25-year-old had 20 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks in 31 minutes. It was the second time this season the 7-foot-2 center scored in double-digits, having scored 15 points against the Washington Wizards in November while playing for the Indiana Pacers.
Brown is well-traveled in his six-year career, having played for seven teams. Brown has averaged 5.2 points and 4.9 rebounds over 162 games (45 starts).
Dallas can’t immediately sign Brown to another 10-day deal because it is hard-capped at the first apron, meaning he can be up for grabs after his contract is up. The Knicks, on the other hand, can add a veteran such as Brown because their team salary is hard-capped at the second apron and they have enough cap space under the apron to add a veteran’s minimum deal.
Before the Hukporti injury, both T.J. Warren and Chuma Okeke were among the players on New York’s radar for the open roster spot.
