Sabres Should Make Big Move With Jason Zucker

The Buffalo Sabres made several additions to their roster this off-season, but none have been more impactful than Jason Zucker. The 33-year-old winger has been outstanding for the Sabres, posting 18 goals, 44 points, and a plus-4 rating in 53 games.

Zucker has not shown any signs of slowing down as the season progresses, too. The 2010 second-round pick is currently sporting a five-game point streak, where he has two goals and six assists over that span. This includes a three-assist performance against the New York Rangers on Feb. 22.

With the NHL trade deadline approaching and the Sabres currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, Zucker has come up in the rumor mill. It is understandable, as he is a pending unrestricted free agent having a big year. However, given how amazingly he has fit into the Sabres’ system, the Atlantic Division club should work hard to keep him around in Buffalo as we continue to inch closer to the March 7 deadline.

Zucker has not only made a major impact with his offensive play, but he has been a valuable leader for Buffalo as well. The Sabres have several young players, so keeping a veteran like Zucker around beyond this season would be wise.

It will be fascinating to see if the Sabres can agree to an extension with Zucker before the deadline. Given how perfectly he has fit in, signing him to a new deal would be significant.
