Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl played his part in the battle of the NHL scoring leaders Friday night.
Against the Colorado Avalanche, Draisaitl became the first NHL player this season to reach the 40-goal mark – even though there’s credit to go around for that accomplishment.
“I’m not here to talk about myself again,” Draisaitl told reporters post-game. “It’s nice to hit that mark for sure. There’s lots of players around me that are a big, massive part of that, so I’m not taking full props for all of that. There’s lots that has to go right and has to go into it.”
While Draisaitl was a big part of Edmonton’s efforts to chase down the Avalanche on the scoreboard, Nathan MacKinnon increased his lead on Draisaitl in the NHL’s Art Ross Trophy race in Colorado’s 5-4 win.
Although these teams don’t meet again in the regular season, this battle might not be over for the year, either.
