The Detroit Red Wings announced they have recalled forward Elmer Söderblom from their AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.
The 23-year-old has five goals and 17 points in 38 games for Grand Rapids this season.
A sixth round selection of the Red Wings in 2019, Söderblom made his NHL debut in the 2022-23 season and recorded five goals and eight points in 21 games. His last NHL appearance was Jan. 7, 2023 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Söderblom has 54 points in 119 career AHL games, all with Grand Rapids.
Listed at 6’8 and 246 pounds, Söderblom is one of five NHL players who are listed as at least 6’8, trailing just Matt Rempe (6’9) as the NHL’s tallest player. His size and physicality will command lots of attention around the net.
He is expected to play on a line with Michael Rasmussen and Christian Fischer against Philadelphia Flyers tonight.
