Yorkshire batter James Wharton has extended his contract until the end of the 2028 season.

The 23-year-old hit 285, the fifth highest individual first-class score ever at Headingley, in the draw with Northamptonshire in September.

Wharton scored 833 runs in the County Championship to help the White Rose win promotion to Division One.

“He’s as good a talent as I’ve seen, and it’s brilliant to have him. Anthony (McGrath, head coach) has said exactly the same,” Yorkshire’s general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton told the club website.
