With Connor McDavid moving into second all-time in points for the Edmonton Oilers, it is worth noting that while the Oilers are a great franchise, the Chicago Blackhawks have had a number of very good players come through and stay a long time.
McDavid sits at 1046 points in his career, all with the Oilers, and is second to Wayne Gretzky who had 1669 points with Edmonton. The Blackhawks happen to be one of only six teams that McDavid wouldn’t rank in the top-3 all-time in points…yet.
McDavid would rank 5th all-time in points if he were on the Blackhawks. That is tied with the lowest he’d rank among all NHL teams along with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, and Los Angeles Kings.
The Blackhawks players that have more points for Chicago in their career are Stan Mikita (1467), Patrick Kane (1225), Bobby Hull (1153), and Denis Savard (1096).
It takes a player producing at a young age and through two long-term deals on one team to put up the numbers it takes to be ranked in the top-5 of an Original Six team or a team with a great history. That is unless you are McDavid. He put up 1000 points before the age of 28 and before he signed his second contract off of his entry-level deal.
Connor Bedard is the only player on the Blackhawks that, as of now, has a chance of entering into the top-5 in points for Chicago in his career, and that’s a long way away. If he can do it, there’s a good chance a lot of winning will come from this team in the near future.
