Las Vegas Grand Prix: Race Review

The 2024 Las Vegas Formula One Grand Prix delivered an exhilarating spectacle, as Max Verstappen claimed his fourth consecutive drivers world championship.

Held on the iconic Las Vegas Strip circuit, the event was a standout not only for its unique setting but also for the intense on track competition. Mercedes showcased their dominance, with George Russell claiming victory, followed by teammate Lewis Hamilton who secured 2nd place despite starting in 10th after a difficult qualifying, marking a strong performance for the team. The Ferrari’s of Carlos Sainz Jr and Charles Leclerc ensured the battle for the Constructor’s Championship will go down to the final races as they secured 3rd and 4th, outscoring McLaren by 12 points who themselves had a disappointing race as they finished 6th and 7th.

The race itself was packed with excitement, featuring a challenging 6.2-kilometer street circuit that pushed drivers to their limits with plenty of overtaking happening up and down the race order. The Mercedes drivers of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were in a league of their own and deservedly secured a one/two finish, however in the end the day belonged to Max Verstappen who secured the points he needed to win his fourth straight drivers world championship. The Dutchman came under pressure in the second half of the season from Lando Norris, however in the end the gap was too much to make up and Verstappen’s imperious drive in the wet in Brazil all but secured the title before today’s calm and collected drive.

The action continues next week in Qatar where both McLaren and Ferrari will continue their battle for the Constructors title.
