After another enthralling round of Premier League action with results that affected both the top and bottom of the table, we have collated our latest round of Power Rankings. However, before we dive in, let’s check out the results from this weekend:
Brentford 3-2 Bournemouth
Crystal Palace 0-2 Fulham
West Ham Utd 0-0 Everton
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 Southampton
Brighton 2-1 Man City
Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa
Man Utd 3-0 Leicester City
Nottingham Forest 1-3 Newcastle Utd
Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Ipswich Town
Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal
Here we go, let’s check out the Sports Alert News Team power rankings for this week:
1) Liverpool – extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. Mohammed Salah was the star man again for the Reds with another goal and assist whilst goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made two outstanding saves to maintain Liverpool’s lead. Arne Slot has made a great start since taking over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer with his side currently looking the favorites to be crowned champions in May.
2) Chelsea – it appears that after a couple of tumultuous seasons, Chelsea are finally back and competing for a Top 4 position. This statement was reinforced by the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the weekend in a game that they would most probably have lost last season. Despite coming into the job with a level of trepidation from Chelsea fans, Enzo Maresca has done a brilliant job of molding an inflated squad into a team worthy of challenging at the top end of the table.
3) Brighton & Hove Albion – a stunning 2-1 comeback win versus champions Man City has cemented Brighton into genuine European contenders and has backed the theory that on their day Brighton are a challenge for any team in the division. The challenge for the Seagulls will be to maintain this early season form and keep them in the hunt for an unlikely Top 4 position.
4) Fulham – Marco Silva’s side have quelled any potential relegation talk and have firmly established themselves as a Premier League side. Playing an attractive brand of attacking football and with players such as Emile Smith-Rowe dictating proceedings, Fulham could be on the verge of one of their best season’s ever. The 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace moved them alongside a group of teams battling for the coveted European places.
5) Newcastle Utd – after an indifferent start to the season, the Magpies have now defeated Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in consecutive games to move themselves up to 8th in the table and only a point outside the Top 4. With Alexander Isak scoring again and Joelinton the driving force in midfield, could another Top 4 finish be on the cards?
