As teams return to European action next week, we thought we would check out the latest Club ELO Rankings for the Top 10 sides across Europe:
Manchester City
Total Points: 2018 (Rank = 1st)
Summary: In the past three seasons, City have won the Champions League (2022-2023) and made a Semi-Final (2021-2022) and Quarter-Final (2023-2024) whilst also dominating domestically winning 4 consecutive league titles. Significantly ahead at the top of the current European club ELO rankings.
Inter Milan
Total Points: 1972 (Rank = 2nd)
Summary: The Italian giants made the Champions League final in 2022-2023, eventually losing to the only team above them in the current rankings (Man City). They are also the current holders of Serie A having won the Italian league championship last season by a massive 19 points.
Liverpool
Total Points: 1972 (Rank = 3rd)
Summary: The Reds currently sit atop both the Premier League and Champions League tables after a great start to the season under new manager Arne Slot. Statistically, Liverpool are the best performing English side to ever compete in Europe and based upon their current form, could a 7th European Cup be on the cards?
Arsenal
Total Points: 1943 (Rank = 4th)
Summary: The Gunners have not won a trophy since the 2020 FA Cup, however their consistent form and results in the Premier League has maintained their Top 10 ranking. Could they go one better in Europe this season and progress beyond the quarter-finals?
Real Madrid
Total Points: 1940 (Rank = 5th)
Summary: The side from the Spanish capital had a record breaking 2023-2024 season as they won an unprecedented 15th European Cup to add to their La Liga title. Los Blancos have not started the season as well, trailing Barcelona in the domestic league standings, however Real can never be written off in the Champions league, a competition that they can rightly call their own.
Barcelona
Total Points: 1917 (Rank = 6th)
Summary: After a turbulent few years caused by a variety of off-the-field financial issues, the Catalans appear to be returning to a side that can be considered a genuine title contender, both domestically and in Europe. They may never scale the heights of their golden period inspired by a certain Argentinian magician, however it is good to see one of the powerhouses of European football looking back to their best.
Bayern Munich
Total Points: 1912 (Rank = 7th)
Summary: The giants of German football were dethroned last year by an inspired Bayer Leverkusan team, however you can never write them off and with one of Europe’s best strikers leading the line in Harry Kane, expect them to retain their domestic title and challenge in the latter rounds of the Champions league.
Atalanta
Total Points: 1903 (Rank = 8th)
Summary: It may be a surprise for some to see La Dea in the Top 10, however the reigning Europa League champions deserve their place given their form both in Serie A (currently 2nd) and in the Champions League (9th). With their brand of attacking football they look a good bet as a potential dark horse for both titles.
PSG
Total Points: 1902 (Rank = 9th)
Summary: Have dominated the French league for the past 10+ years, however apart from a final appearance in 2019-2020 the Parisians have failed to replicate their all conquering domestic form into Europe and after a poor start to this seasons campaign it is highly likely they will be required to compete in the play-off round to progress to the knockout rounds.
Bayer Leverkusen
Total Points: 1896 (Rank = 10th)
Summary: Broke Bayern Munich’s stranglehold on the Bundesliga by winning the title last season, also going the whole league season undefeated. Came up short in the Europa League final as Atalanta secured a 3-0 win. Have not started this season as well, however they look well placed to make the Champions League play-off round.
