Jerry Jones, even after the Dallas Cowboys’ latest loss on Monday night, is still hinting at a trade ahead of the deadline on Tuesday afternoon. The Cowboys owner met with reporters after the team’s rough 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, and was asked about a vague trade he hinted about earlier in the day.

“There’s one trade I can do, and I am leaning toward doing it,” he said, via the NFL Network’s Clayton Holloway.

Jones, fittingly, gave no other information. He did confirm, though, that the deal is not yet finalized. That’s the opposite of what he said, perhaps erroneously, before Monday night’s game.

The trade deadline is set for Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. So if Jones is going to actually make a move, he’s running out of time.

“We’ll see how tomorrow goes,” he said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “Today was all about tomorrow. You shouldn’t do anything, you should wait and see what we do tomorrow.”

The Cowboys dropped their third game in four outings on Monday night while making plenty of mistakes from start to finish. The Dallas offense, which has typically been the team’s bright spot, fell flat, too.

While Jones could be looking at just about anything — he said before the game on SiriusXM that he just wants “to be relevant,” and when it “gets slow, I stir that s*** up” — it’s likely their defense that Jones would want to make a move for. Their secondary is very depleted due to several injuries, and cornerback DaRon Bland looked awful Monday night. He was even crossed up by Marvin Harrison Jr. at one point while giving up an easy touchdown.

And though it’s not all connected, the Cowboys defense hasn’t seemed to recover after he dealt star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers before the season.

The other part of it is, though, is that the Cowboys sit at just 3-5-1 on the season. At this rate, they look well on their way to missing the postseason for a second straight year.

But while it’s not looking good, Jones isn’t giving up just yet.

“As long as you’re mathematically involved, you should be there to go do it,” he said, via The Dallas Morning News’ Joseph Hoyt.

We’ll see if the trade — if it ever comes, that is — makes the difference.
