Joe Root won the Bob Willis Trophy as he was recognised as England’s player of the year at the 2025 Cricket Media Club awards.

Root became England’s all-time leading Test run-scorer in October 2024 and moved up to second in the overall Test list behind India legend Sachin Tendulkar this summer.

Bowler Lauren Bell won the women’s award while England leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed was named young player of the year.

“To receive anything with the great Bob Willis’s name on it, and an award that is held in such high esteem by the players, coming from the people who watch every ball of cricket all around the world means a huge amount,” Root said.

Haseeb Hameed, who led Nottinghamshire to their first County Championship title since 2010, received the County Championship Player of the Year award.

Davina Perrin won the Emerging Cricketer of the Year honour. She scored a stunning 101 for Northern Superchargers in the women’s Hundred eliminator.

Seamer Bell, 24, has been the standout bowler for England in 2025 as they began their new era under coach Charlotte Edwards and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt.

She has taken 15 T20 international wickets, another 13 in one-day internationals this year and is currently part of England’s squad at the World Cup in India.

Rehan scored five centuries and took 23 wickets for Leicestershire as they won promotion in the County Championship.
