Ohio State head coach Ryan Day tells wild story of nearly getting into a golf fight while playing with Joey Galloway

Let’s be honest: If a story had come across our desk featuring Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and former wide receiver Joey Galloway in a golf course fight, we would’ve written that up and published it in a millisecond. Thankfully, Ryan Day showed some restraint, driving off after a mis-hit from a former Buckeyes legend nearly started a hell of an altercation.

“Coach Day, we’re still trying to get a round of golf in. You’ve been looking at your calendar since February,” Galloway says on the “Nonstop with Kirk & Joey” podcast. To which Day responds, “The last time we played golf, you pulled one and hit a box truck. And a guy jumped out and started screaming at us.

“I got in the car, drove off. And he and [former NFL running back] Raymont Harris went right at the guy and were trying to fight him. This is the last time I golf with Joey Galloway.”

“Out of the corner of my eye, I see Coach Day jump into the golf cart,” Galloway confirms. “He’s like, ‘Hey guys. I can’t be out here in a fight. You guys go ahead. I cannot.’ No fights next time, coach. Let’s just get out there and golf.”

That’s the right move for the OSU head coach and shows that he’s still got a pretty good 40 yard-dash time when the opportunity calls for it. Currently coaching the No. 1 team in college football, Day’s too high profile to be getting mixed up in an on-course fight. Gotta look out for numero uno, especially with a base salary of $2 million a year on the line.

That’s a business decision from Coach Day and one we salute. Stay out of the headlines for the wrong reasons. There’ll always be another round of golf. Hopefully next time, a former NFL wide receiver won’t drag him into a brawl.
