After an intense qualifying session we can now look forward to the main event as lights out are expected at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in Mexico City at 20:00pm UK GMT.
The Ferrari driver of Carlos Sainz Jr took an impressive pole position with a 0.225secs gap to title rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris who will start 2nd and 3rd respectively on the starting grid. However, with the longest starting straight of any F1 race, getting a slipstream into the first corner could actually put Verstappen, Norris and especially Charles Leclerc who starts 4th, in a more advantageous position for the early stages of the race.
The Mercedes drivers of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton will start from 5th and 6th after another frustrating weekend, they will both be hoping the upgrades Mercedes have brought will be enough to make them competitive with the cars ahead of them on the grid and not be battling the Haas, Alpine and Williams drivers who line up behind them.
The winner of this race in the previous 3 out of 4 races has actually started from 3rd on the grid – could that be a good omen for Lando Norris? With Verstappen finding his form again and the Ferraris looking extremely strong and in the battle for the Constructors Championship, we could be in for a highly entertaining race, on the basis the drivers make it unscathed through what is sure to be a dramatic first corner.
