The Pittsburgh Penguins‘ active 2025 NHL trade deadline has officially kicked off.

First reported by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Penguins announced that they have traded forward Michael Bunting and a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Nashville Predators for defenseman Luke Schenn and forward Tommy Novak.

Schenn, a 35-year-old right defenseman, has one goal and five points in 61 games on the season and is known as a shutdown defender. He has one year remaining on a three-year deal that pays him $2.75 million annually.

Novak, 27, is a versatile center that has some offensive upside. He is in the first year of a three-year contract worth $3.5 million annually, and he has posted 13 goals and 22 points in 52 games on the season for Nashville. Novak registered 18 goals and 45 points in 71 games last season and is a solid fit as a third-line option.

Bunting was acquired by Pittsburgh last season as part of the deal that sent Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes. In 79 games with Pittsburgh dating back to last season’s deadline, Bunting has registered 20 goals and 48 points.

He has 90 goals and 210 points across 326 NHL games.
