Kiefer Sherwood has once again hit his way into the NHL record book. Against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Vancouver Canucks forward became the 17th player in NHL history to record 300 hits in a season. According to Sportsnet, Sherwood is also the fastest player to 300 hits in a season, achieving the feat in just 52 games.

With his 300 hits, Sherwood joins a list of some of the NHL’s biggest hitters from the past two decades. The 16 other players are Mark Borowiecki, Dustin Brown, Cal Clutterbuck, Nicolas Deslauriers, Radko Gudas, Garnet Hathaway, Tanner Jeannot, Jeremy Lauzon, Matt Martin, Jack McBain, Brooks Orpik, Roman Polak, Ryan Reaves, Tuomo Ruutu, Luke Schenn and Brady Tkachuk. While Schenn did hit the 300 mark in a season he played for the Canucks, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs and only recorded 273 with Vancouver.
The 2024-25 season has been a special one for Sherwood. He has already set new career highs in goals with 13 and is four points away from matching the 27 points he recorded with the Nashville Predators last season. Signed as a free agent this offseason, Sherwood is in the first year of a two-year contract and carries an AAV of $1.5 million.

Up next for Sherwood will be smashing the all-time single-season hits record. That record is currently held by his former teammate, Lauzon, who recorded 383 hits last season. With Sherwood averaging 5.8 hits per game, the NHL will likely have a new single-season hit king by the end of the year.
