Disc golf coming to Prairie Creek and Fowler parks

Two new disc golf courses will be coming to Vigo County parks, including one that designer John Houck hopes will be the best in Indiana.

Prairie Creek Park should see its course open in the spring, while a larger disc golf course is also coming to Fowler Park.

John Houck, who designed the Fowler course, hopes it will be the best in Indiana and in the top 20 in the country. Fowler’s course is expected to open in early 2026 and attract 30,000 visitors a year, including pro level tournaments.

“I think people are going to be blown away when they see this course for the first time — it may very well be the most dramatic property we’ve ever worked on,” Houck said. “For starters, it has great trees, stunning water features, and unique topography. My favorite part of the design was getting to innovate features, which will complement the existing beauty.”

Houck thanked the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department for building landscaping features that will create more variety and strategy for players.

“When you combine a great ‘raw canvas’ with a committed parks department and community, that is a great recipe for success,” he said. “It is very exciting; I’ve been excited about this project since the first time I walked the property. I also love the fact that the course will be able to accommodate players of every skill level.”

Disc golf, also known as Frisbee golf, is a sport in which players throw a flying disc at a target, using rules similar to golf.

Duke Energy donated $10,000 to the project, and Bill and Judy Brett made a donation that ensures the courses will carry the names of their grandchildren, Journey, William, Emily and Tess.
