Buffalo Sabres forward Dylan Cozens has been the subject of trade rumors for much of this season. Questions surrounding his future in Buffalo should only keep coming up as we continue to get closer to the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
With Cozens being a big, young center with plenty of term, he has understandably generated trade interest this season. However, Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams needs to think carefully before potentially moving him, as dealing him would come with some serious risk.
Cozens has shown in the past that he has the tools to be a highly impactful top-six center. His 2022-23 season effectively demonstrated this, as he set career highs with 31 goals, 37 assists, and 68 points in 81 games. While he has yet to replicate that production since, he is also just 24 years old. Thus, he is still right in his prime, and there is certainly plenty of time to regain his scoring touch.
It would sting if the Sabres traded Cozens, and he found immense success elsewhere. The Sabres have traded multiple players who thrived elsewhere, with Sam Reinhart, Ryan O’Reilly, and Brandon Montour being notable examples.
Overall, with Cozens being signed until the end of the 2029-30, the Sabres should not rush a move centering around the right-shot center. It will be intriguing to see what happens with Cozens from here.
