On Feb. 6’s episode of NHL Insider Trading, NHL insider Darren Dreger reported that the St. Louis Blues are testing captain Brayden Schenn’s trade market. According to NHL insider Nick Kypreos, he is not the only Blues star who could be in play.
Kypreos added Blues forwards Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich to his latest trade board for Sportsnet on Feb. 7.
Kypreos also reported that Blues general manager Doug Armstrong “wants to unload an $8 million salary” and that he “wants to change things up” because the club “hasn’t been good enough to break through.”

Kyrou, 26, carries an $8.125 million cap hit until the completion of the 2030-31 season. He has zero trade protection right now, so the Blues could move him without any restrictions if they wish to. However, he will have a full no-trade clause starting next season until the end of the 2029-30 campaign. For the final season of his contract, it changes to a 15-team no-trade list.
The Blues trading Kyrou would undoubtedly be significant, as he is one of their best players and right in his prime. He currently leads all St. Louis skaters with 23 goals and 44 points in 55 games.
Buchnevich, 29, signed a six-year, $48 million contract extension with the Blues this past July, which kicks in next season. He also has a full no-trade clause starting next season, so if the Blues want to truly move him, now would be the easiest time. For the remainder of this season, he has a $5.8 million cap hit and a 12-team no-trade list.
Teams looking for an impactful top-six forward could express interest in Buchnevich as we get closer to the deadline. In 53 games this season, the 2013 third-round pick has 11 goals and 33 points. This is after he had 27 goals and 63 points in 80 games last season.
In addition to Buchnevich and Kyrou, Schenn and defenseman Justin Faulk appeared on Kypreos’ latest trade board. With all of this, St. Louis will be a team to watch as we continue to get closer to the deadline.
