LIV Golf season opener in Saudi Arabia to be under the lights at Riyadh Golf Club

LIV Golf’s season opener is two weeks away, and it’s setting up to be a unique tournament to kick off 2025.

The league will contest its first event under the lights at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia. The event will begin at 6:15 p.m. local time, per LIV Golf’s website, which correlates to 10:15 a.m. EST in the United States. Sports Illustrated first reported the start time for LIV Golf Riyadh.

The late start time is unique for numerous reasons. One, it will be live in the United States early in the morning. With Fox Sports as LIV Golf’s new TV partner, it gives the league a chance to get in front of more eyeballs during the morning and daytime in the United States on its new network and not have to compete with the PGA Tour’s WM Phoenix Open, which won’t be on TV until that afternoon.

Another reason is night golf in itself. Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, two of LIV Golf’s stars, played under the lights in The Showdown in December, bringing a unique viewing experience to fans. Night golf has become more common in the past decade, including the Ladies European Tour playing under the lights in Dubai in 2020 in the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic.

Now, LIV Golf will try something new to begin its third league season: playing under the lights in the Saudi Arabian capital.
