The Washington Capitals announced they have loaned goaltender Hunter Shepard to their AHL affiliate Hershey Bears and activated goaltender Charlie Lindgren from injured reserve.
A back-to-back Calder Cup champion and reigning Baz Bastien Memorial Award winner as AHL’ Best Goaltender, Shepard has a 15-7-1 record with an .898 SP and 2.36 GAA with the Hershey Bears this season.
The 29-year-old did not appear in any games for Washington during this call-up. He made his NHL debut and started four games for the club last season, posting a 2-1-1 record, .894 SP and 3.19 GAA.
The Bears are tied for first in the AHL in points as they continue their quest for a third straight Calder Cup. They take on the Rochester Americans at home tomorrow.
Lindgren was injured in a game against the Montreal Canadiens on Jan. 10. He returns to back-up Logan Thompson tonight.
All three of Shepard, Lindgren, and Thompson are unrestricted free agents at the end of the season, it will be interesting to see how many of the three the team retains.
