After being claimed off of waivers on Jan. 5, former New Jersey Devils defenseman Nick DeSimone made an immediate with his new team.
In his debut with the Utah Hockey Club, the 6-foot-2 blueliner earned his first point in the second period of Friday’s game against the San Jose Sharks.
At the 5:57 mark of the middle frame, DeSimone fired the puck toward Sharks goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. Clayton Keller picked up the puck and passed it to Nick Schmaltz, who scored the goal to tie the game.
The 30-year-old played alongside Juuso Valimaki, who he was teammates with during his time with the Calgary Flames organization.
It was DeSimone’s first NHL game this season and the first hockey game since Dec. 19, when he played for the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. With the Comets, he appeared in 12 games and collected three assists.
