The Dallas Cowboys have traded for Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson in an effort to shore up their anemic defense, NFL Network reported Tuesday.
The Cowboys are sending a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Bengals for Wilson. A defensive captain for the Bengals, Wilson had requested a trade after his snap count had recently decreased.

The trade comes hours after Dallas suffered a 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on “Monday Night Football” in which Cardinals backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had intimated Monday that the team was planning to make to a trade ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

Wilson’s 11 interceptions over the past 5 1/2 seasons led all NFL middle linebackers. He led Cincinnati in tackles each season from 2021-23 before injuries forced him out of the final six games of the 2024 season.
The Cowboys have struggled defensively — both with their pass rush and in their secondary — since trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for a pair of first-round draft picks and defensive lineman Kenny Clark prior to the start of the season.

Without Parsons, Dallas is giving up 30.8 points per game, good for 31st in the NFL. The team also ranked 31st in points allowed last season, giving up 27.5 points per contest.
Wilson’s addition should help. While the veteran has been more effective in past seasons, his 54.8 overall grade from PFF is higher than all three of Dallas’ current starting linebackers.
Following Monday night’s loss, the Cowboys are 3-5-1 on the season. The team will take on a struggling Las Vegas Raiders offense in Week 10 before playing the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in consecutive weeks. Both Philadelphia and Kansas City rank in the top-10 in points scored per game this season.
