He was 41.Mangold said ina letter to the Jets communitythat he was diagnosed with a genetic defect in 2006, which led to his chronic kidney disease. He was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor in 2022 as one of the greatest centers of all time.”Nick was more than a legendary center. He was released by the team in 2017 and didn’t play that season.
