Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor claims he has no plans to make any coaching changes as the team heads into the bye week.

The Bengals thrillingly dropped a second consecutive game when the defense failed to get a late stop, after rallying from a 14-point deficit against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Most notably, Taylor mentioned how he still believes in defensive coordinator Al Golden, despite the struggles on defense this season.

“Working like crazy,” Taylor said. “He’s a great football coach. He’s doing everything he can to uncover every single stone to make us play better. I think we’re all sick for the way these games have gone, him probably as much as anybody else on this planet. I trust in him, I trust in the staff.”

Bengals players were outwardly upset following the defensive collapse that led to the 47-42 loss to Chicago. Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and running back Chase Brown were among those who could not hold back their true feelings after witnessing their defense fail to get one stop with less than a minute remaining in regulation. Up 42-41, Cincinnati’s defense wound up allowing a 58-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Caleb Williams to tight end Colston Loveland.

“One f***ing stop,” Chase said, shaking his head walking to the locker room after the game.

Brown expounded on that same sentiment while speaking to the media following the loss.

“We put the ball in the end zone, and go up a point at the end,” Brown explained, taking things further. “Finish the f***ing game. Just end it. That’s it. That’s what we need to do, just end the f***ing game.”

Cincinnati has lost the last two games by a combined six points while giving up 86 points in those two losses. Offensively, the Bengals have done about all they can do to win, posting 38 points and 42 points in each of the past two games, respectively.

As the Bengals enter their bye week, there are many more questions than answers where the defense is concerned. At 3-6, the Bengals’ season isn’t over, but if changes aren’t made in some capacity as we enter the second half, Taylor could be on an even hotter seat very soon.

After the bye week, Cincinnati steps right back into the fire with a division matchup in Week 11 against the Steelers on Nov. 16 at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
