49ers reportedly among teams interested in trade for Dolphins LB Jaelan Phillips

The 49ers need help at linebacker and they could turn to the sinking Miami Dolphins before Tuesday’s 1 p.m. PT NFL trade deadline.

San Francisco is among the NFL teams interested in Dolphins outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Saturday, citing team and league sources.

Russini reported that the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots are some of the other teams known to have interest in Phillips.

Per Russini, the Dolphins want at least a third-round draft pick in return for Phillips.

The 49ers currently have their 2026 first-, second-, third-, and fourth-round draft picks. They also have a seventh-round draft pick acquired from the Patriots in this week’s Keion White trade.

San Francisco also is projected to receive three compensatory fourth-round draft picks, per Over The Cap.

All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner’s season-ending ankle injury dealt a big blow to the 49ers, and they have been leaning on Dee Winters and Tatum Bethune to pick up the slack.

But Phillips would be a talented addition to the 49ers’ linebacker room. Selected No. 18 overall in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the UCLA and Miami product earned NFL All-Rookie Team honors after racking up 8.5 sacks and 42 combined tackles.

This season, the 26-year-old Phillips has three sacks, seven quarterback hits and 25 total tackles in nine games.

During his five-year NFL career, Phillips has 26 total sacks and 177 total tackles.

Phillips is in the final year of his Dolphins contract and will be a free agent after this season.
