Sean O'Malley offers more effective eye poking technique: 'Be careful using this sh*t'

Eye pokes are the hottest topic in the sport after UFC 321.

The main event of the pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi came to an unfortunate ending when Ciryl Gane shoved his fingers in both of UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall‘s eyes late in the first round. As a result, the fight, which was shaping up to be a special heavyweight title bout, ended abruptly in a no contest.

While most of the MMA community debates whether Aspinall could have continued or calls for stiffer penalties for fouls, former UFC champion Sean O’Malley offered a different angle in reaction to the eye poke drama: teaching technique.

O’Malley tapped into his brand of humor and took it upon himself to explain a more effective way to get your fingers in the eye of an opponent.

“A lot of people are using the front hand, whether orthodox or southpaw, using the front hand for the eye pokes,” O’Malley said while demonstrating on a Bob dummy in a video post to X (formerly Twitter). “But I’ve been thinking like, jab to the body and then coming with a cross. See, it’s more force. Those front eye pokes, like, you don’t get that much force. When you really get into it, you can really do some damage. … Be careful using this sh*t. It’s dangerous sh*t.”
