Warrington Wolves have signed second-rower James Bentley from Leeds Rhinos and centre Josh Smith from Australian side Brisbane Tigers.

Bentley, 28, joins on a 12-month contract having made 81 appearances for Leeds after joining from St Helens ahead of the 2022 campaign.

Whilst with Saints he played in, and won, one Super League Grand Final as well as winning two League Leaders’ Shields.

Smith, 24, arrives in the northern hemisphere on a two-year deal having made 20 Queensland Cup appearances for the Tigers last season and was voted player of the year.

“The squad that’s coming together is really exciting. I can’t wait to get started and rip into pre-season, work with [head coach] Sam [Burgess] to build my game, and do my bit to help the team have a big year,” Bentley told the club website.

Smith added: “I am very grateful and excited for the opportunity ahead of myself at Warrington and it is a move that definitely excites me, especially after talking to [director of rugby] Gary [Chambers] and Sam about the club and the future aspirations.

“I have always looked at Super League from afar and been a fan of it, so this is an opportunity that I wanted to take with both hands, to challenge myself and also take my game to another level personally.”
