Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones did his usual Tuesday morning radio hit on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas and discussed the upcoming NFL trade deadline.
“There hasn’t been anything close to a deal. We’re looking at all phases of our roster … we happen to have, what would appear for us, a bigger need than we’ve had.”
The Cowboys’ defense was lit up again on Sunday, giving up 44 points to Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos offense. Nix completed 19 of 29 passes for 347 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. Denver’s offense accumulated 426 total yards against Dallas and averaged 6.4 yards per carry for 179 rushing yards.

Denver converted four of its five red-zone opportunities into touchdowns. Dallas had zero answers for Sean Payton’s offense, which has been a theme for the Cowboys during the first half of the season. The Cowboys need help defensively, and Jones doesn’t seem to know where it will come from.
After trading edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers just before the start of the season, Dallas’s pass rush has been mediocre at best. The Cowboys rank in the lower third of the league in sacks with 15 through eight games. Parsons has contributed 6.5 sacks in Green Bay through seven games.
Although their Week 8 performance in Denver was lackluster, Dallas’s offense has performed well overall this season. Dak Prescott had a bad game against the Broncos’ No. 7-ranked defense (186.3 yards per game), which forced him to throw two interceptions and pass for just 188 yards. While the Cowboys rushed for 108 yards as a team, starting running back Javonte Williams was held to just 41 yards but did score two touchdowns.

Despite a down week, the Cowboys’ offense is still No. 1 in passing (263.8 per game), No. 2 in total yards (384.1), and No. 2 in scoring (30.8). So offense is not the issue in Big D. Defense is clearly a main area of importance for the Cowboys as the Nov. 4 trade deadline approaches.
In Week 9, Dallas heads home for a showdown with Arizona on Monday Night Football at 8:15 p.m. ET from AT&T Stadium.
