Former Minnesota Vikings All-Pro Adrian Peterson was arrested in Sugar Land, Texas, on charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to multiple reports.

Peterson, 40, was taken into custody at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, police told KHOU.com. Jail records confirmed Peterson’s arrest, though other details were not made available, per KHOU.com.

Peterson was born in Palestine, Texas, and attended high school in the state before going to Oklahoma for college.

It’s the second time this year Peterson was arrested for a suspected DWI. In April, Peterson was arrested in Minnesota on a suspected DWI hours after attending the team’s NFL Draft party. Peterson was booked at 5:15 a.m. on a Friday. The previous night, Peterson spent time at the team’s draft party, even doing an interview with KFAN during the event.

After a standout career at Oklahoma, Peterson was drafted by the Vikings with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He immediately emerged as one of the best running backs in the NFL, rushing for 1,341 yards as a rookie. Peterson made the first of his seven Pro Bowl appearances that season and won the Rookie of the Year award.

Over his 15-year NFL career, Peterson made four All-Pro teams and took home the 2012 NFL MVP award after rushing for 2,097 yards.

After spending the first 10 years of his career with the Vikings, Peterson bounced around to various teams, including the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commanders, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks. He last played in the NFL in 2021.

During his career, Peterson rushed for 14,918 yards, the fifth-highest total in NFL history. He’s likely a first ballot Hall of Famer once he’s eligible for the honor.

Off-the-field issues have plagued Peterson at times during and after his career. In 2014, Peterson was suspended by the NFL for six games after disciplining his son with a switch. In 2022, he was arrested for alleged domestic violence. Last September, Peterson was ordered to turn over assets to settle a $12 million debt. In addition to his suspected DWI arrest in April, Peterson was involved in a fistfight over a poker game in June.
