Wales’ Mimi Xu secured her place in the final of the Wrexham Open following victory over Lily Miyazaki in an all-British semi-final.
Xu won the first set 6-2 but Miyazaki hit back to take the second set 6-4.
But Xu, the 18-year-old from Swansea, came out firing in the decider as she broke Miyazaki twice and dropped just seven points on her way to closing out the victory 6-2.
She will face fellow Brit Mika Stojsavljevic in Sunday’s final.
The 16-year-old reached her second successive ITF final with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Estonia’s Elena Malygina.
“I came out and I was playing really well at the start and mostly through the second as well,” said Xu.
“Lily did a really good job of finding the pressure when I broke her and just making me work for each point, and she was the better player at the end of the second, but I think I did a really good job of just resetting and staying in the moment in the third set, and really happy to get through it.”
“The supports means everything to me,” Xu added.
“This is my biggest final that I’ve been in and just to do it in Wales, when I go out on court I really feel the support.”
Xu and Stojsavljevic faced each in Birmingham last week when Stojsavljevic emerged a 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 winner in the quarter-finals on her way to becoming champion.
“We both know each other well and hopefully it will be a great match, and I’m excited for it,” said Stojsavljevic, the former US Open junior champion.
Xu will also feature in Sunday’s doubles final after she and Ella McDonald secured a straight sets win over Miyazaki and Freya Christie, winning 6-3, 6-4.
They will face Britain’s Armani Banks and Valentina Ryser of Switzerland in the final.
