Eagles vs. Giants predictions for Week 8 of the NFL season
The Eagles (5-2) will host the Giants (2-5) at the Linc in an NFC East battle before their Week 9 bye week.
Let’s get to the predictions:
Reuben Frank (4-3)
Despite a pretty extensive injury list – no A.J. Brown, no Cam Jurgens, no Adoree’ Jackson, no Azeez Ojulari, no Brandon Graham – I just don’t see the Eagles losing to the Giants again. They didn’t lose two weeks ago because the Giants were the better team, they lost because for whatever reason they just weren’t mentally and physically prepared to play football on Oct. 9. The Giants aren’t nearly as talented, but they played hard and they played tough and they played physical and the Eagles didn’t do any of those things and they got embarrassed. Last week in Minneapolis was an encouraging response. It wasn’t a perfect game but it was a good win in a tough building after a two-game losing streak. The Eagles will miss their injured guys, but they also get Jalen Carter and Nakobe Dean back after they missed the first Giants game, and I don’t see those guys letting that sort of embarrassment strike again.

There are a bunch of injuries on both sides entering this Week 8 game. And there’s no doubt the Eagles will miss A.J. Brown and Cam Jurgens in this one. But they’ll also get a few players back for this game who either didn’t play or played limited roles against the Giants in Week 6. This time, the Eagles will have Jalen Carter, Landon Dickerson, Nakobe Dean and Quinyon Mitchell and that will go a long way. The most shocking thing about the Eagles’ Week 6 loss was that they were bullied by the Giants and that just hasn’t happened much to a Nick Sirianni Eagles team very much. I don’t expect it to happen again, especially on with those players listed above back in the lineup.
The Eagles seemed to figure something out on offense last week and I’m very curious what it will look like on Sunday, especially without Brown and Jurgens. My guess is that all the issues will not suddenly be solved but they should have enough to put up some points on the Giants. And on defense, it’s about stopping their run game with Cam Skattebo and the quarterback Jaxson Dart. This is a proud defense that won’t allow a repeat of a couple weeks ago.

Barrett Brooks (5-2)
This has to be a game where the Eagles must dominate the trenches! Everyone is calling this a get-back game. I am usually not one that gets caught up with the fans’ theme on what a game should be for the Birds, but this game I am all in on the “get back” theme. We were beat up physically in the previous game. We were dominated on the line of scrimmage. Their d-line stopped the run and pass. Saquon Barkley was getting the handoff and hit after he took two steps. Penetration kills the run game and the Giants’ DL played on our side of the LOS all day. This should be the charge the O-line needs to jump start the run game the rest of the season.
The Eagles’ defense should have a chip on their shoulder the size of the Rock of Gibraltar. Two rookies made the defense look like a semi-pro team. QB Jaxson Dart and RB Cam Skattebo were laughing at the Birds in the third and fourth quarter. They punished us and started flipping in the end zone. Total disrespect was shown that Thursday night a few weeks ago! The Giants must pay for the laughter and playful antics displayed that night.
Total domination and style points must be obtained this Sunday! The Birds must run the ball and pass when they want to. The Giants’ offense must not be allowed to run the ball. Make Dart pass the ball and collapse the pocket around him. Don’t give him scrambling lanes for evading the pass rush. Keep him in the pocket and give him a reason to make rookie mistakes.

Just two weeks ago, the vibes around the Eagles were a mess following a 34-17 beat down at the hands of the Giants. Led by Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo, the G-Men took it to the Eagles in way we we’ve almost never seen under Nick Sirianni. The Giants, who had been pushovers for so many seasons, were more physical, tough, and determined. Their effort almost seemed to catch the Eagles by surprise. That’s not happening again. For one, Jalen Carter and Landon Dickerson – arguably their two most physical forces – will be playing. Ditto for Quinyon Mitchell who left the last matchup early. But there are certainly injury issues for the Birds with no A.J.Brown or Cam Jurgens on Sunday.
That will certainly make life more difficult on Jalen Hurts. He played arguably his worst game of the season in the Meadowlands, with a couple of critical misfires. He overthrew DeVonta Smith on what would have been a long touchdown then threw a self-described “bad ball” that was picked off by Cor’Dale Flott in the 4th quarter. Hurts rebounded in a big way against the Vikings, posting a perfect passer rating.Even without Brown, he’ll be locked-in against a depleted Giants secondary down their top corner (Paulson Adebo) and top safety (Jevon Holland). The Eagles will exact some revenge and head into the bye on a high note.

Ashlyn Sullivan (4-3)
The Eagles straight up got pushed around two weeks ago in their loss to the Giants. Tackle Jordan Mailata told us this week he views this matchup as a “get right” game for him and both lines of scrimmage, sharing the message this week is to be more physical than we have seen all season. I think the Eagles passing game found something last week with Jalen Hurts’ ability to improvise with a big emphasis of buying time in the pocket. Even with A.J. Brown out, this Giants’ secondary is nothing to fear. The issues that the Eagles have had this season I fear will remain this week. I don’t think the Eagles running game can get going against a Giants defensive line that is playing with a ton of momentum and I think the pass rush will have major trouble against Giants tackle Andrew Thomas.
