Tom Aspinall is one of the few fighters in UFC history who have defended an interim title.
In July 2024, Aspinall took on long-time contender and former rival Curtis Blaydes in the co-main event of UFC 304 in England. It was his first defense of the UFC interim heavyweight title, a bout that was pushed by Jon Jones’ pending UFC heavyweight title defense against Stipe Miocic. Making the case he’s the rightful champion of the division, Aspinall only needed 60 seconds to put away Blaydes. It was a brilliant performance from the Englishman.
You can watch Aspinall’s impressive win in the video above.
Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) returns in the main event of UFC 321 (ESPN pay-per-view, FX/Disney+, ESPN+) on Saturday at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. In his first fight since being promoted from interim to undisputed champion, he takes on former interim titleholder Ciryl Gane (13-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC).
