Paddy Donovan will fight Australia’s Liam Paro in a final eliminator to meet IBF world welterweight champion Lewis Crocker.
Donovan was beaten by Crocker for the vacant title last month in a split decision at Belfast’s Windsor Park in what was a rematch of the pair’s controversial first bout in March.
Crocker won that fight by disqualification before going on to become a world champion for the first time with victory in September’s second meeting between the pair.
A victory for Donovan over the Australian would set up the prospect of a trilogy fight Belfast man Crocker.
No date or venue has been set yet, but Matchroom Boxing CEO Eddie Hearn revealed that the eliminator could take place in Paro’s home country.
“We’ve been speaking to No Limit (Paro’s promoters). They’ve made us an offer to do the fight in Australia,” Hearn said.
“It’s a bigger split to Liam Paro because of his position so we may have a little trip to Australia for that one.
“Paddy will fancy his chances, as Liam would. It’s a very good match-up.”
