Roob's Eagles Stats: The insane A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith numbers and tons more
Once in a while, a football game comes along that just screams, “STATS.”
There it goes again! STATTTTTTS! Did you hear it?
If it’s Jalen Hurts stats you want, they’re in a separate post, which you can find here.
For DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown stats and everything else? This is the place to be.
And I may have gotten a little bit carried away, but let’s just say this week’s Roob’s 10 Eagles Stats has a few more than 10 stats.
1. With 183 yards for Smith and 121 for Brown, this was only the fifth time in franchise history two Eagles combined for over 300 yards in a game but the second time Smith and Brown have done it. In a late-season game in Chicago in 2022, Brown had 181 yards and Smith 126 for a total of 309 yards. The other instances? On the last day of the 1952 season, in a 45-35 loss to the Cardinals at Busch Stadium, Timmy Brown (199) and Tommy McDonald (162) combined for 361 yards; in 1953, Bobby Walston (176 yards) and Pete Pihos (145) combined for 321 in a win over the Giants at Connie Mack Stadium; and in 2007 Kevin Curtis (221) and Brian Westbrook (111) combined for 332.
2. This was the sixth game in Eagles history where two players had at least 120 receiving yards and a touchdown. Pete Pihos and Bobby Walston did it in a win over the Giants at Connie Mack Stadium in 1953, Tommy McDonald and Pete Retzlaff in 1961 against Washington at District of Columbia Stadium, McDonald and Timmy Brown in 1962 vs. the Cardinals at Busch Stadium, T.O. and Brian Westbrook vs. the Packers at the Linc in 2004 and Riley Cooper and DeSean Jackson in the Nick Foles seven-TD game at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in 2013.
3A. DeVonta Smith’s 183 receiving yards Sunday were the most by an Eagle since Jeremy Maclin had 187 in Glendale in a loss to the Cards in 2014. Smith increased his career total to 5,110 career yards, becoming the 10th Eagle with 5,000 receiving yards and passing Maclin (4,990) to move into 10th place in franchise history. Next for Smith on the all-time Eagles list are Brent Celek (5,255), Bobby Walston (5,401) and Tommy McDonald (5,589).
3B. With those 5,110 career yards in 79 games, Smith is 3rd-fastest in Eagles history to 5,000 yards. DeSean Jackson got there in 73 games and Mike Quick in 74.
4. Jalyx Hunt’s 42-yard pick-6 was the 3rd-longest in Eagles history by an edge rusher. Clyde Simmons had a 60-yard TD return off Phil Simms in a 24-17 Eagles win at Giants Stadium in 198 and Juqua Parker a 55-yarder off 49ers quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan in a 40-26 Eagles win at Candlestick Park in 2008. Josh Sweat also had a 42-yarder off Dak Prescott in a 40-34 loss to the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in 2022.
5. Hunt’s pick-6 off Carson Wentz was only the second in franchise history by an Eagle against a former Eagles quarterback. In 2010, in the Eagles’ 59-21 win over Washington at FedEx Field, Dimitri Patterson had a 40-yard pick-6 off Donovan McNabb. It was one of two Patterson interceptions in that game off McNabb.
6A. With two takeaways and no turnovers, the Eagles improved to 38-2 when they are plus one or better in turnover margin. The only losses were to the Chiefs in 2021 in Sirianni’s fourth game as a head coach and the Washington loss last December. With 2nd-quarter interceptions by Jalyx Hunt and Drew Mukuba, this was the first time the Eagles have had two INTs in the same quarter since C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Darius Slay picked off Cooper Rush in the second quarter of the Eagles’ 26-17 win over the Cowboys at the Linc in 2022. It’s the first time they’ve had two in the same quarter on the road in six years, since Sidney Jones and Ronald Darby picked off Matt Ryan in the third quarter of the Eagles’ 24-20 loss to the Falcons in Atlanta in 2019.
6B. For those of you wondering, the last time the Eagles had two INTs in a first quarter was on Thanksgiving Day 2008, when Joselio Hanson and Quintin Mikell picked off Kurt Warner in a 48-20 Eagles win over the Cards at the Linc. Last time they had two in a fourth quarter was in 2016 in a 24-16 win over the Giants at the Linc, when Malcolm Jenkins and Terrance Brooks picked off Eli Manning.
6C. Mukuba is the first Eagle with two interceptions in his first seven career games since Rasul Douglas picked off Eli Manning in his second career game in 2017 and Cam Newton in his fifth career game. He’s the first safety the Eagles have drafted with two INTs in a season since 2010 2nd-round pick Nate Allen had four interceptions in 2014.
7A. The Eagles have been outgained in all seven games this year and they’re the first team in NFL history to be 5-2 or better despite being outgained in each of their first seven games. Only two other teams have had a winning record after being outgained in each of their first seven games – Washington in 2010 and the Steelers in 2023 were both 4-3.
7B. The only other times the Eagles have been outgained seven times to begin a season were 1971 and 1999. Of 54 teams in NFL history to be outgained in each of their first seven games, the only one to reach the postseason was the 2003 Steelers. The Eagles are also the first team ever to win a Super Bowl one year and get outgained in its first seven games the next year.
7C. The most consecutive games the Eagles have ever been outgained is 11 in 1983. The Eagles are also only the seventh team in history – and first in the last 25 years – to open a season 5-2 despite being outgained by at least 435 yards. The last team to do that was those same 2000 Lions, who were 5-2 despite being outgained by 520 yards.
8. The Eagles had two sacks Sunday, extending their franchise record of consecutive games with two or fewer sacks to 12. Last time the Eagles had more than two sacks in a regular-season game was last Dec. 1, when Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter sacked Lamar Jackson and Zack Baun and Jalyx Hunt split a sack in the Eagles’ 24-19 win over the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.
9. With another turnover-free game Sunday, the Eagles have played an NFL-high 32 regular-season games without committing a turnover since Nick Sirianni became head coach in 2021, going 27-5 in those games.
10. The Eagles have committed just four turnovers in their last 13 games, the 2nd-fewest turnovers in NFL history by any team in a 13-game span. The Bills had consecutive 13-game stretches over the 2024 and 2025 seasons with just two turnovers.
BONUS STATS BECAUSE I JUST CAN’T STOP. SOMEBODY SEND HELP.
11. The Eagles ran just 49 offensive plays Sunday. Their 361 yards is 2nd-most in franchise history when they’ve run fewer than 50 plays. They had 391 yards in a 40-17 win over the Giants at the Linc in 2009. The Eagles had lost their last nine games when they ran fewer than 50 plays going back to that win over the Giants 16 years ago.
12. This was only the second time in the last decade the Eagles won despite averaging fewer than 2.0 yards per carry. They had 45 rushing yards on 23 carries for 1.96 yards a pop. Their only other win while averaging under 2.0 yards per carry since 2015 was 16-15 over the Bears in 2019 at Soldier Field.
13. D’Andre Swift had 313 scrimmage yards against Washington and the Saints in the Bears’ last two games. That’s the most scrimmage yards in a two-game span by a former Eagle since LeSean McCoy had 314 against the Browns and Dolphins with the Bills in 2016.
14. The Eagles averaged 7.37 yards per play against the Vikings, their 3rd-highest under Nick Sirianni behind a 7.41 against Washington in 2021 and 7.57 against the Steelers in 2022. It’s the franchise’s highest yards-per-play on the road since they averaged 9.51 in Oakland in 2013 in the Nick Foles seven-touchdown game.
15. The Eagles are now 27-11 on the road under Sirianni, the best road record in the NFL since 2021. They’re 3-1 this year away from the Linc, with five road games remaining. If they win at least two of those five, they’ll clinch their fifth straight winning season on the road, which they’ve only done once – from 2000 through 2004.
16. The 100-yard game was A.J. Brown’s 19th as an Eagle, which trails only Pete Retzlaff (23) and Harold Carmichael, DeSean Jackson and Mike Quick (21 each). DeVonta Smith now has 15, which puts him tied for seventh with Fred Barnett. Only Tommy McDonald, who had 17, is between Smith and Brown.
17A. Saquon Barkley’s 3.3 rushing average is lowest by an Eagle through seven games (minimum 12 carries per game) since 1972, when Po James took a 3.0 average into Week 8.
17B. Barkley’s 5.1 rushing average is 5th-highest in the NFL this year in the first quarter. His 2.8 average after the first quarter is worst in the NFL.
17C. Barkley has already had three games with at least 18 carries and 2.6 yards per run or worse. He’s the first Eagle ever with three such games in any season. Five players have had two such games in a season – Steve Van Buren in 1950, Tom Sullivan in 1974, Herschel Walker in 1992, Ricky Watters in 1996 and Duce Staley in 1999. Only Van Buren and Staley – with five each – have had more games at 2.6 or worse in their entire Eagles career. Barkley is the first NFL player with three games at 2.6 or worse in a season since Tampa’s Doug Martin in 2017. The last player with more than three was the Bengals’ Cedric Benson with four in 2010. There are 10 games left.
18. Moro Ojomo, the Eagles’ 7th-round pick in 2023, has three sacks through seven games, matching the most sacks by a player the Eagles drafted in the seventh round or later since Clyde Simmons had 5.0 in 1993, his last year with the Eagles. Mike Flores, an 11th-round pick in 1991, had 3.0 sacks in both 1993 and 1994. Ojomo already has the most sacks by an Eagles interior lineman drafted in the seventh round or later since Harvey Armstrong, a 7th-round pick in 1982, had 3 ½ sacks in 1983. Ojomo’s 3.0 sacks rank 7th among all interior linemen so far this year.
19. Thanks to Katie at Stathead for running a custom search for this one: Smith’s 151 yards in the second half are the 3rd-most in a second half by an Eagles receiver since 1974, as far back as available records go. T.O. had 154 yards in the second half of the Eagles’ 49-21 loss to the Broncos in October 2005 – his last game as an Eagle – and A.J. Brown had 156 yards in the second half of the Eagles’ win over the Bears in late 2022.
20. The Hunt and Mukuba interceptions came on consecutive passes that the Eagles faced. Last time the Eagles picked off back-to-back passes was in a 33-10 win over the 49ers at the Linc in 2017. Early in the second quarter, Rodney McLeod picked off C.J. Beathard, and then Beathard didn’t throw on the 49ers’ next drive, but on the drive after that, his first pass was picked off by Jalen Mills and returned 37 yards for a touchdown.
21. Four of the Eagles’ last six pick-6’s were by a player on his first career interception. Sweat’s 42-yarder in 2022, Sydney Brown’s 99-yarder off Kyler Murray in 2023, Cooper DeJean’s 38-yarder off Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl and Hunt’s 42-yarder Sunday were all that player’s first career INT.
22. The Eagles have been outgained by 158 net passing yards and 278 net rushing yards. They’re only the sixth team in NFL history to go 5-2 despite getting outgained by at least 150 yards both passing and rushing through seven games, the first since the 2000 Lions. The others: The 1964 Browns, 1971 Bears, 1992 Broncos and 1999 Seahawks. Of those teams, the 1964 Browns went 10-3-1 and won the NFL Championship, the 1971 Bears lost their last six games and went 6-8, the 1992 Broncos finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs and the 1999 Seahawks lost five of their last six, finished 9-7 and lost in the wild-card round.
23. The Eagles are now 28-7 in one-possession games since 2022, an .800 winning percentage that’s by far the best record in the NFL. The Vikings are 2nd-best at .718 on 28-11, including their six-point loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
24. The Eagles have only allowed seven passing touchdowns, their fewest through seven games since 2007, when they allowed six. Only the Texans have allowed fewer with three. Opposing quarterbacks are completing just 59.4 percent of their passes, 4th-lowest in the league, and their passer rating is 80.1, also 4th-lowest in the league.
25. Although the Eagles did record two interceptions Sunday, their cornerbacks have now gone 26 consecutive regular-season games without picking off a pass, a streak that dates back to late 2023, when Kelee Ringo had an interception off Tyrod Taylor of the Giants. That 24-game streak is the longest in Eagles history. Since opening day 2023, Eagles corners have four INTs in 41 games – two by Darius Slay and one each by James Bradberry and Ringo.
