Eagles at Vikings predictions for Week 7 of the NFL season

The Eagles (4-2) will travel to Minnesota to face the Vikings (3-2) in an NFC battle in Week 7.

Let’s get to the predictions:

Reuben Frank (4-2)

It’s been a year since I picked the Eagles to lose a football game. I played a hunch that they would go into East Rutherford last October and lose to the Giants after that lackluster Week 6 win over the Browns. They won. It was 28-3. I felt like an idiot. But I just had a weird feeling they were going to lose. It happens. I’ve picked them 19 consecutive times since then and gone 16-3, missing only the late-season loss in Washington last year and these last two games against the Broncos and Giants (I had the right game, just the wrong year). But I have less confidence in this football team now than I’ve had in a long time. I don’t think the Vikings are a great team, but they have a very good defense, they run the ball well, they get after the quarterback, they’re well coached and there’s the small matter of the best wide receiver in football to deal with. The Eagles are certainly talented enough to go into U.S. Bank Stadium and win. But if they play the way they’ve played pretty much all year they won’t. They’ve got to play appreciably better on both sides of the ball to get out of Minneapolis with a W and I’m just not confident that will happen.

Dave Zangaro (4-2)

I went back and forth all week. This is one of the tougher games to predict in a long while. Because if the Eagles play like they did against the Giants in Week 6, they can lose to anybody. So I’m just going off a hunch that the Eagles are going to respond to that performance and come out playing a more physical brand of football in Week 7. That’s not to say that all of their issues are going to be solved. On offense, there will be opportunities to run the football and the Eagles need to try to do that better in this game. It’ll be a key to keep the offense on schedule and not get behind the sticks. On defense, it’s a huge boost to know that Quinyon Mitchell is playing in this game, but we’ll need to keep an eye on him to see if that hamstring holds up. If it does, the Eagles should be able to minimize the damage done by Justin Jefferson. They should also be able to force Carson Wentz into a few mistakes in this game and escape U.S. Bank Stadium with a much-needed win.

Barrett Brooks (4-2)

This has been a long week of doom and gloom in the city. All the criticism of how the Eagles have played has been warranted. They are not playing up to the standard. The expectation of the Eagles’ brand of football has not been achieved. Back even before I played, physical football has been the brand. From Buddy Ryan to Ray Rhodes to Nick Sirianni, the general feeling when you played an Eagles team is that we would beat you up. Win, lose or draw, you felt like you were in a street fight. Last Thursday, the Eagles were punched in the mouth and got beaten up. I never thought this team would be out-worked physically. That’s what happened against the Giants. We were beat up and they made us give up in the fourth quarter. So I don’t care about Kevin Patullo’s calls on offense or what Vic Fangio called on defense; the Giants kicked our butts! Until the attitude gets adjusted and we get back that killer mentality, this will be a long season. This is a must-win for the Birds. They must flip the switch and get that bad attitude back. We need that bully brand of football back this Sunday!

Mike Mulhern (4-2)

The only word to describe the paths that Jalen Hurts and Carson Wentz have taken from being teammates in 2020 to this moment is divergent. Hurts has become a Super Bowl MVP with perennial playoff appearances while Wentz has bounced around to his sixth different team in the last six seasons. He even watched from the Kansas City sideline last season as Hurts captured the Lombardi trophy. Sunday should make for great theater in Minnesota.

Wentz has performed solidly and will likely have three starters back along the offensive line this week. He has a full compliment of weapons and a quarterback whisperer of a head coach in Kevin O’Connell who has won 14 games with Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold in recent seasons. Plus, Wentz be facing a toothless Eagles pass rush that also has questions in the secondary.

Meanwhile, Hurts and the Eagles offense are putting up worse numbers than the Jets and Browns. The murmur of discontent is growing louder by the week, but the hope is a 10-day layoff did them right. I’m just not sure Brian Flores and the Vikings’ defense are going to allow them to quiet all that noise. While Minnesota is vulnerable on the ground, the Eagles haven’t found their footing with Saquon Barkley this season. I’m confident a turnaround is coming for the 2025 Eagles, but they just need to escape with a win this week.

Ashlyn Sullivan (3-3)

I don’t expect the Eagles to get pushed around like they did in their loss to the Giants based off the conversations we heard in the locker room this week – its very clear the Eagles know they have to get back to their identity of a tough, detailed football team. We all know the biggest problem is this Eagles offense that ranks third-worst in the NFL going against a Vikings defense that is allowing the second-fewest passing yards per game in the league. I don’t think this is the week that the Eagles passing game comes to life. I think this game looks a lot like the close games the Eagles won earlier in the year with a strong defensive effort and winning the turnover battle. I do think the Eagles’ running game is going to be able to be more consistent this week. The Vikings defense has the 24th ranked run defense in the NFL and Saquon Barkley and the offensive line have hinted this week on changing some things up based off the predictability of the run and involving more play action. The Eagles win … the passing game will continue to be a question mark… and we will continue to talk about how this Eagles team can play better.
