Golf fans will see more of Tiger Woods early in 2026 than they think. He just might not be swinging any golf clubs.
The 15-time major champ announced last week he’d undergone spinal surgery, a seventh back procedure in 11 years.

“After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with Doctors and Surgeons to have tests taken,” Woods wrote on X. “The scans determined that I had a collapsed disc in L4/5, disc (sic) fragments and a compromised spinal canal. I opted to have my disc (sic) replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”

Woods offered no timetable on a return to competitive golf. With his 50th birthday on Dec. 30, Woods will be eligible for the PGA Tour Champions to start 2026.
He had also been expected to play in TGL events having played in four matches during the inaugural season of the tech-infused indoor golf league he founded with Rory McIlroy. But he at least gave a small update to his future schedule in response to a tweet from his Jupiter Golf Links squad.

“I’ll be there for every match! Looking forward to seeing everyone on January 13th for our home opener. And @willlowerygolf, hands off my sticks!” Woods tweeted in response.
As you can see, Woods gave no update on when he’ll actually play again, but he will at least be in attendance at the SoFi Center to root on his teammates, Kevin Kisner, Max Homa and Tom Kim when Jupiter Golf Links begins its second season on Jan. 13. In the meantime, we’ll have to continue to watch his social feeds for any other hints about when he’ll be there for more than just moral support.
