Is there anything more versatile than a classic polo shirt?
In terms of menswear must-haves, the venerable polo is a staple for good reason. Dress it up or dress it down, the polo functions as both an essential piece of athletic wear as well as the perfect option for dinner with the in-laws.
Modern fabrics have enabled the polo to reach new heights of comfort and style, with light-as-air, moisture-wicking and anti-stink fabric paired with collars that stay sharp even after a machine wash.
The best thing about polos? You can never have too many! So whether you’re looking to stock your closet ahead of the coming holiday season or are seeking some inspiration on which polos would make the best gifts, you can’t go wrong with personal recommendation. Peter Millar
I’m not much of a fashion guy, but if there’s one thing I know, it’s that a classic stripe or solid color polo is never going out of style. But the true reason I always look for the Peter Millar section is because of the nice roomy fit and the soft and smooth material. It also doesn’t hurt that Peter Millar polos allow me to still think I’m a medium as opposed to large in everything else. —Jack Hirsh
Peter Millar Summer Comfort polos
Our performance jersey and mesh fabrics are the gold standard in softness, style and stretch comfort.
Johnnie-O
Johnnie-O is one of those brands I’ve started to see several of my golf pals gravitate toward — and now I know why. After picking up a couple of their polos this summer, they’ve become my go-to golf shirts: stylish, lightweight and — this is a big one for me — form-holding! Too many polos, especially polo collars, get misshapen after a few washes. But the Johnnie-Os in my closet — I have one Performance Jersey model and another from the Featherweight line — have weathered the test not only of sweaty days on the course but also the beatdowns doled out by washer-and-dryer cycles. I also dig the surfer-dude logo. Something about it puts me at ease. —Alan Bastable
Johnnie-O Featherweight Performance
Our Featherweight collection is 30% lighter than our standard jersey and wicks away sweat, regulates heat and has built-in UPF 50.
Radmor
I keep reaching for Radmor’s polos — particularly from their Hudson or Union lines. I’m addicted to cotton at this point (fully out on the feel of polyester) and they’re as comfortable any shirt I’ve ever worn. They also have a distinctive style, elegant but approachable, that suits golf in the Pacific Northwest. Bonus points for their location, just a short drive from my house in Seattle. —Dylan Dethier
