New York Jets running back Breece Hall has been one of the lone bright spots in a winless season so far. Through six games, the 24-year-old has 410 rushing yards, good for 11th in the league.
But that performance hasn’t led to any wins. Despite Hall’s contributions, the Jets are the worst team in the NFL. With the franchise seemingly going nowhere, Hall’s name has been bandied about in trade rumors.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn attempted to put those to rest Wednesday, telling reporters he does not want to get rid of Hall, per ESPN.
“They’re rumors,” Glenn said. “I still feel the same way.”
Glenn made similar comments in August, when he was asked about his running back deployment during the season. During the offseason, Glenn said the Jets would rely on three different running backs. That caused some to wonder whether Hall had fallen out of favor with the new head coach.
Glenn reassured reporters in August that wasn’t the case, saying his multiple running back strategy “does not mean that I’m trading Breece. OK? [It] does not!.”
For all of Glenn’s offseason chatter, Hall has essentially served as a workhorse in the Jets’ offense. Through six games, he has 88 attempts. Braelon Allen had only 18 carries in four games before getting hurt.

While that makes it look like the Hall is a foundational piece for the Jets, the franchise does have some incentive to ship him off. Hall is in the final year of his contract, and will be a free agent at the end of the 2025 season.
With the Jets going nowhere, and the team seemingly unsure whether Hall should be signed to a long-term deal, there’s some logic to getting something in exchange for Hall before he hits the market. While it’s possible the Jets could try and sign Hall, assigning significant money to a running back on a roster that clearly has other needs might not be the wisest investment.

Hall has shown flashes of excellence over his career. He dazzled as a rookie before tearing both his ACL and meniscus. He was able to return the following season, but has yet to rush for over 1,000 yards in the NFL. It’s tough to know how much of that is due to Hall’s ability and how much is due to the Jets’ recent struggles.
A change of scenery is required in order for teams to get that answer. If he can wind up in a good situation, Hall could secure a significant long-term contract if he hits the market. If he remains with the Jets the rest of the way, he could still get a big contract on the market, the yards just won’t come easy in New York.
