DWCS 86 fight goes off the rails as UFC hopefuls repeatedly drop each other

One of the most turbulent fights in Dana White’s Contender Series history took place Tuesday between two featherweight hopefuls.

Australia’s Marwan Rahiki and Democratic Republic of Congo’s Anaias Mulumba went to war at the UFC Apex. From the opening bell, it was clear someone was likely to be finished. But until Rahiki (7-0) landed a knee-to-double-elbow-to-uppercut combination, it wasn’t clear it’d be Mulumba (9-3). The stoppage came at 2:12 of Round 2 of their DWCS 86 bout.

Rahiki was a moderate betting favorite, but Mulumba nearly finished him in the opening seconds. Rahiki survived and rocked Mulumba, who then returned the favor. The craziness continued in the second round as Mulumba fended off a ninja choke attempt. But eventually Rahiki hit him with a crazy four-strike combination to snatch consciousness – and likely a UFC contract with it.

Rahiki, 23, entered the bout the HEX Fight Series and Beatdown Promotions champion and he maintained his 100 percent finishing rate with the win. Mulumba, 27, has a three-fight winning streak snapped.
