Things haven’t gone well for Brian Callahan in his first two seasons as Tennessee Titans head coach. After going 3-14 a year ago, the team is 1-5 this season and boasts one of the worst offenses — and defenses — in the NFL.
While a Week 5 win over the Arizona Cardinals offered some hope the Titans were maybe getting on the right track, the team’s lackluster loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6 reset any of that momentum.

A least one Titans player expressed frustration with the team’s inability to build on its Week 5 win. After Sunday’s loss to the Raiders, Pro Bowler Jeffery Simmons called out his teammates for turning in a terrible week of practice entering Week 6.
Simmons’ full comments read:
“It is disappointing. In this league, you have to learn how to stack wins. And to be able to carry that momentum over, you have to do … I mean, it started at practice. Just being honest, this probably was one of our worst weeks of practice. We came out flat Thursday. And things like that, and that nature, sometimes things carry over.
“In this league, you have to prove it every week. And re-prove it. You gotta go out there and keep proving yourself, your team, that you can win in this league. We didn’t do that in all three phases. Today was bad football. We didn’t play good today at all.”
It’s a discouraging development for the Titans, who are trying to recover after three-straight last-place finishes in the AFC South.
The selection of Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick was supposed to help the team turn around its luck, but Ward has taken some time to adjust to the NFL. In six games, Ward has just three passing touchdowns against four interceptions. He’s far from the only reason the Titans have struggled, but his slow acclimation process has been discouraging.

Simmons’ comments make it clear it goes beyond one person, though. With his comments, Simmons seemingly called out both his teammates and the coaching staff.
If the Titans are going to turn things around, it’s going to take a team-wide effort to make that happen. Simmons is one of the most accomplished players on the team, so here’s hoping his comment inspires both his teammates and the coaching staff to do better as the Titans prepare to play the New England Patriots in Week 7.
