HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Leonardo Perdomo, a fast rising star in BKFC, isn’t too convinced the champion of his division wants the smoke.
Perdomo thinks BKFC heavyweight champion Ben Rothwell is scared to fight him and is avoiding a clash between the two strictly out of fear. Perdomo is undefeated in his bareknuckle boxing career, winning all his nine fights by first-round KO. His most recent win came this past Friday in the main event of BKFC 80, putting away former champion Arnold Adams in a little over a minute.
After the fight, speaking at the BKFC post-fight press conference, Perdomo let the world know what he thinks of the champ.”Everybody knows Ben Rothwell is scared of me,” Perdomo told MMA Junkie and other reporters. “I’m not in a rush. When BKFC gives me opportunity for the title, then OK. But Ben Rothwell is a little boy.”
Rothwell, a former UFC heavyweight contender, won the BKFC heavyweight title at BKFC Knucklemania V in January. He knocked out MickTerrill in just 36 seconds to claim the belt. Rothwell, who’s 4-0 in bareknuckle boxing, has yet to be booked for his first title defense.
Perdomo wants the championship fight, but doesn’t want to press BKFC. He’s thankful for the career he’s built in the company, and is willing to do what the members of the promotion’s brass deem best for him next.
“When someone knows you want to kill them, that person goes pale,” Perdomo said. “Death is coming over (Rothwell), OK? If the fight happens, I’m cracking his head. The thing is that BKFC opened the doors for me, and they gave me a chance to become a professional, the chance to make a name for myself – Zambo – so I have to wait for them to give me the opportunity. This is a process. It’s little by little. I’m going to continue growing with the league and continue to help them grow.”
