Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow put up unbelievable statistics last season — 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, third in total QBR (74.7), the highest of his career — but his team went 9-8 and missed the postseason.
The betting public was expecting even more from Burrow this season — specifically to win the 2025 NFL MVP.

Burrow was the most-bet player to win 2025 NFL MVP by both total wagers and total dollars at BetMGM sportsbooks entering the season, garnering double the number of wagers (15.5%) and the money wagered (22.6%) of any other player. He had +600 odds entering Week 1, tied for second with Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen and behind favorite Lamar Jackson (+500).
While the Bengals and Burrow weren’t impressive in a 17-16 win in Week 1 over the Cleveland Browns, it was a rare September victory for Cincinnati.
However, Burrow was hurt in the second quarter of Sunday’s Week 2 game — an eventual 30-27 Bengals win over the Jaguars — and didn’t return. Further tests showed he’ll need surgery for a turf toe injury and will be out at least three months, certainly ending any hopes for an MVP campaign. Burrow had +750 odds heading into Week 2, but now isn’t even listed.

He is currently still the biggest liability to win the award at BetMGM sportsbooks.
The two biggest reported MVP wagers this offseason were both on Jackson:
-
$50,000 on Jackson to win NFL MVP at ESPN BET at +550 odds to win $275,000.
-
$50,000 on Jackson to win NFL MVP at Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas at +600 to win $300,000.
Since Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson won the MVP in 2012, 12 straight quarterbacks have won the award.
