Kelvin Gastelum is backing his fellow Mexican in the “Fight of the Century.”
Canelo Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) puts his undisputed super middleweight title on the line against undefeated Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Earlier that night, Gastelum (19-10 MMA, 13-10 UFC) takes on Dustin Stoltzfus (16-7 MMA, 3-6 UFC) in Noche UFC’s featured main card bout at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
“I just think Canelo is going to be a little bit too big, too big for Crawford,” Gastelum told MMA Junkie Radio. “Crawford is the one coming up a couple of weight classes, so I just think Canelo is going to be big, strong. He’s going to bully him.”
Gastelum, who was wearing a comfortable robe during the interview, was asked about legendary boxer Marvin Hagler’s famous quote of, “It’s hard to get up out of bed in silk sheets.” He referenced Canelo to explain why he still has that desire after more than 12 years in the UFC.
“If you have a clear objective of what you want to do and what you want to accomplish, then it’s easy to get up in the morning,” Gastelum said. “It’s easy to get up out of bed when you know what you want to do and what you want to accomplish. I can see Canelo has always been a very goal-oriented guy. He’s always made that very vocal. He’s always been very vocal about what he’s wanted to accomplish and how people want to see him. He’s done a tremendous job at executing that.”
