If your job depended on your ability to tackle Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, why would you give him bulletin-board material just days before you face him? That’s a question that Cleveland Browns safety Grant Delpit might be asked depending on the result of Sunday’s game.
With the Browns and Ravens a few days away from squaring off, Delpit was asked how hard it was to take down the 6-foot-2, 252-pound Henry. Delpit’s response was one he might come to regret: “Not hard.”
It’s a bold statement to make at any point, let alone so close to actually seeing Henry on the field. Over his career, Henry has made his bones by grinding defensive players to dust. There are times when it takes him three quarters worth of carries before he finally wears out a defense. But there are also times where Henry decides to strike early and throw would-be tacklers aside with ease.
Josh Norman, whom Henry ran over in 2020, is far from the only defensive player to be the victim in Henry’s highlights. He’s destroyed more than his fair share of players who tried to take him down.

All that said. Delpit did get the better of Henry with a big hit last season — and then did the “too small” celebration.
While Delpit took a big risk in inviting Henry’s ire, the Browns’ safety can back up some of his talk. Over his career, Delpit has registered 41 solo tackles in eight games against the Ravens. That’s the highest total Delpit has picked up against any NFL team. When playing against the Ravens, he seems to take his game to the next level.
Not all of those tackles have come against Henry, of course. And it only takes one missed tackle on Henry to find yourself on the wrong end of a highlight. Delpit knows that’s the case and also knows there’s a chance he’ll wind up eating those words by Sunday night.
