Micah Parsons made his debut with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, registering a sack in Week 1’s 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.
Following the game, Parsons praised the Packers fans for how they embraced him in his first game with the team, calling it a “one of one” experience. That could certainly raise eyebrows among Dallas Cowboys fans, who presumably showed plenty of support for Parsons during four seasons in which he made four Pro Bowls and was a two-time first-team All-Pro.

With Parsons making an immediate impact in getting to Lions quarterback Jared Goff, along with the warm reception he received from Packers fans, it seemed natural for Dallas Cowboys team CEO Stephen Jones and head coach Brian Schottenheimer to be asked about how their former defensive star fared on Sunday.
Schottenheimer acknowledged that he noticed Parsons’ performance, having watched “a little bit” of the Lions-Packers game, which was CBS’ national 4:25 p.m. ET broadcast on Sunday afternoon.
No hard feelings from the Cowboys’ new head coach, apparently. He was a great player for Dallas and figured to be a great player for Green Bay, in Schottenheimer’s view.
However, Jones was ready to move on to a new topic during his appearance on Dallas sports talk station 103.5 The Fan. Asked about a report from Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer that the Cowboys’ NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, made a better trade offer for Parsons, the Cowboys’ co-owner tried to steer the conversation toward what the team got in return.
“That’s all in our rearview mirror. All we’re worried about is our future,” Jones said, again via Machota. “We’re worried about Kenny Clark and what the future holds for the Dallas Cowboys. What happened in the past is in the past. We need to go win a football game.”

Jones was also asked about the stalled contract negotiations that led to Parsons requesting a trade and eventually being dealt to the Packers. Though Parsons may have felt otherwise, the Cowboys didn’t feel like they had to work out a new contract before the 2025-26 season began.
“We don’t have any hard and final deadlines on contracts,” he said, via Machota. “If we did a contract eight games into the season, so be it.”
“I love the thought process of most of the players that we draft is they like to keep their mind on their business, but it still doesn’t mean that we can’t get a guy like Tyler Smith done [during the season],” he added. “But we also respect when players want to get down to business and focus on the task at hand.”
Yet as much as Jones and the Cowboys might prefer to move on, Parsons is going to be a topic of conversation among media and fans following the team. The questions will persist if Parsons excels for the Packers and the team goes on to win the Super Bowl. Whether or not Clark stops the run or who Dallas selects with the two draft picks they received from Green Bay won’t change that.
