Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather? Who could’ve possibly had that on their 2025 fight announcement Bingo card? Nobody.
And yet, Tyson and Mayweather have agreed to fight in an exhibition expected to take place in the spring of 2026, according to a press release. CSI SPORTS/FIGHT SPORTS, which manages both Tyson and Mayweather, is putting the fight together, which not even Tyson can believe is happening.
“When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather, I thought, ‘No way this happens.’ But Floyd said yes,” Tyson said in a statement. “This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable – and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.”
Perhaps the biggest reason for that is their ages. Tyson is 59 years old; Mayweather is 48. The thought of these two legends of boxing stepping into the ring against each other – well past their primes – is absurd.
Tyson looked like a shell of himself last November when he fought Jake Paul on Netflix in what was his first professional bout since 2005 – although he fought Roy Jones Jr. to a draw in a 2020 exhibition. Mayweather “retired” after finishing his career a perfect 50-0 when he beat Conor McGregor by 10th-round TKO in August 2017. Since that unprecedented event, Mayweather has fought eight exhibition bouts, including one against Logan Paul in 2021.
All of Mayweather’s post-retirement fights have been various levels of ridiculous, but this one against Tyson tops them all. It’s all but guaranteed to resemble a pillow fight more than actual boxing, nothing more than a glorified sparring session between two over-the-hill legends.
Unlike the booking itself, that part is too predictable.
